Accessibility Statement

Last updated: 26 October 2026

This is an English translation of the Hebrew accessibility statement of this website. If there is any difference between the two versions, the Hebrew text prevails. This accessibility statement is governed by the laws of the State of Israel.

1. Our commitment to accessibility

שדרות ושער הנגב attaches great importance to providing an equal and accessible service to all users, including people with disabilities. We work to make the website accessible in accordance with the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities Law, 5758-1998, and the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities (Accessibility Adjustments for Service) Regulations, 5773-2013, and aim to meet the requirements of Israeli Standard (SI) 5568 at level AA, which is based on the W3C's WCAG 2.1 guidelines.

2. What has been done on the website

Accessibility built into the website's own code

  • The website supports full keyboard navigation: all buttons, links, forms, tabs and pop-up windows can be reached with the Tab key and operated with Enter or Space. Tabs can also be switched with the arrow keys.
  • At the start of every page there is a "skip to main content" link, which appears on the first press of Tab.
  • Keyboard focus is marked on every element with a prominent frame in a contrasting colour, so it is always clear where you are.
  • Pop-up windows (event registration, donation, reading a full news item, notices) are identified as dialog windows for screen readers; focus moves into them when they open and stays inside them, the Escape key closes them, and focus returns to the button that opened them.
  • Every form field has a label, required fields are also marked for screen readers, and error messages, registration confirmations and donation confirmations are read out automatically.
  • The pages have a semantic structure: graded headings, navigation areas, main content and footer are marked, and lists are defined as lists — to allow orientation and quick navigation with a screen reader.
  • Buttons shown as an icon only (close, share on WhatsApp, store, menu) have a text description, and meaningful images have alternative text. Purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Text colours were checked and corrected to meet the required AA contrast ratio, including text shown over images and backgrounds.
  • The website respects the operating system's "reduce motion" setting: when it is on, the scrolling animations, the movement of the sky in the schedule, the counting of the numbers and the moving gallery stop. In addition, the "Pause animations" button in the accessibility toolbar stops the moving content on the website, including the image rotation at the top of the home page and the moving gallery.
  • The website is adapted for display on screens of different sizes, and for zooming in the browser.

The accessibility toolbar

In the bottom corner of every page there is an accessibility button, which opens a toolbar of personal adjustments. The settings are saved in your browser for your next visits:

  • Enlarging and reducing the text (in four steps, up to 150%).
  • High contrast mode.
  • Grayscale display.
  • Underlining links.
  • Stopping all animations on the website.
  • An enlarged mouse cursor.
  • A reading guide that follows the mouse.
  • Resetting all settings.

The toolbar is an addition for convenience only — it does not replace making the website itself accessible, which was done as described above.

3. Known limitations

Despite our efforts, parts of the website may not yet be fully accessible. These are the limitations known to us:

  • The website has not yet been checked by a service accessibility auditor, and systematic testing with screen readers has not yet been completed. The website was made accessible and checked at the level of the code.
  • Gallery images without a caption are shown without alternative text, and event and news images are described by the title of the event or news item rather than by the content of the image.
  • The lesson videos are embedded from YouTube, and some of them may not include subtitles.
  • The map on the contact page is an illustration only; the full address and a link to directions appear beside it as text.
  • The reading guide works with a mouse or touch only.
  • Payment pages and external services (the payment processing company, PayPal, Bit, YouTube, WhatsApp, Google Maps) are not under our control, and their level of accessibility is the responsibility of their operators.

We continue to improve the website's accessibility. If you encountered a difficulty, we would be glad to know about it — see the contact details below.

4. Accessibility arrangements in the building

For details of the accessibility arrangements at the Chabad House itself (access to the building, parking, seating and more) you can contact us using the details below, and we will be glad to help and to prepare in advance for your visit.

5. Accessibility enquiries

Did you encounter an accessibility problem on the website, or do you have a suggestion for improvement? We do not currently have a dedicated accessibility coordinator, and enquiries on the subject are handled directly by the Chabad House staff. So that we can handle your enquiry, please state the page on which you encountered the problem, a short description of it, and if possible the browser and assistive technology you used.

6. Contacting the Commission for Equal Rights of Persons with Disabilities

If your enquiry to us was not answered to your satisfaction, you can contact the Commission for Equal Rights of Persons with Disabilities at the Ministry of Justice.
