Rosh haShana is coming, and the other holidays will be right behind them. We all hope to celebrate with our families and our friends, so that we can wish them a happy and sweet year. But there are also poor families, who live alone, who will be very miserable. They cannot set a beautiful family table for their families, because they have no money. And their situation gives us the great opportunity to do a great and beautiful mitzva, a mitzva that is as beautiful in Heaven as it is for humans. We can make the unhappy happy by bringing them into the joy of the New Year. They are supposed to celebrate and to be happy; we can enable them to rejoice and to fulfill the mitzva of joy on a holiday.
Your contribution toward the food baskets we give out will enable us to do so in a proper manner, so that poor people can see the results at their table. If you can help others rejoice and enjoy the new year, you will be participating in their mitzva.
